Single Lord takes fifth win in row

Consecutive wins are never easy to come by but the Nelson-trained Single Lord came up with his j fifth in a row at Addington Raceway yesterday and made it look easy. The chances of a victory for the Loidship four-year-old did not look particularly bright as they ran into the last SOO metres of the Empire Handicap. At that stage he was mid-field and giving the leaders a handy start but a big run carried him into

a challenging position before the straight and he carried it through to win going away by a little more than a length. In a tight finish for the minor placings Hurricane Squire, in- the line behind the winner witha round to go, took second by half a head from Captain Clive, fourth on the inner till the home turn, with Master Regal, second-equal in the open through the last 1200 m, half a neck away fourth and Ice Wise, always well placed, a similar distance back fifth.
