N.Z. co. to pay out on Thai’s claim
I NZPA Bangkok The Supreme Court of. Thailand has awarded I.IM I baht (about SNZSO,OOO) in insurance claims, to be paid (by a New Zealand company, to a man acquitted of blowing up an airliner to claim insurance compensation for his common-law wife and I daughter. A court spokesman said that Police Captain Somchai (Chaiyasuth will receive compensation from the New Zealand Insurance Company for the death of his wife and daughter, who were among the 81 passengers and crew (killed when a Cathay Pacific 'Airways aircraft exploded in
t mid-air and crashed in South fiVietnam in June, 1972. I; Mr Somchai had earlier (won 2.3 M baht (about SNZ--1 115,000) in insurance claims , from the American Inter- ; i national Assurance Company - and the Hanover Insurance 5 Trust Company. 1 He was arrested in 1972 on charges of sabotaging the i airliner in an attempt to i claim insurance policies of -15.5 M baht (about SNZ- - 275,000), which he had taken r out with four companies. 1 Mr Somchai was acquitted ? in 1974, after an 11-month it) trial, and was reinstated to C ! the Police Department.
