Waimairi County faces $102,000 deficit
Waimairi County can ex- ; pect to end the financial year ■ with a deficit estimated at i $102,000 because of overspending, the county’s fin- j ance and by-laws committee I has been told. i The County Treasurer (Mr ! T. D. Clapp) said that the 1 main items of overexpenditure included salaries, I where $24,000 more than had i been estimated would be i
spent because of State Service increases back-dated to October last year. Because of problems with plant at the county refuse tip, costs there were estimated at September 30 to be $24,400 more than the estimates. In addition, the supplementary subsidy granted the county by the National Roads Board had meant that the
county would have to provide an additional $39,000 as its share. Mr Clapp said urgent measures were being taken to keep expenditure down and reduce the estimated deficit “but at this stage it would seem likely that the ridings will be required to forgo some construction works to achieve this.”
