A variable premium on export earnings would be in- . produced by a Social Credit J government to restore con- , fidence in the farming in- , dustry, said the party’s leader, Mr B. C. Beetham, yesterday. ,1 The premium would be deJcided by a court of price re'iview, he said. The cost of paying the ’i premium to farmers would (be offset by the use of a i premium on luxury imports, (which would help to: : i strengthen the position of '(New Zealand manufacturers. Mr Beetham said that New Zealand should specialise in farming products forI export and energy farming | to replace imported oil. He criticised the Government for giving farmers (financial handouts as. a “political favour instead of (guaranteeing a ‘fair go’ to' -agriculture through an inde- | pendent court of price review.”
