Uraniums in demand
Good gains by the ura-ji nium stocks and B.H.P. lent i some activity to otherwise slow Australian markets t yesterday. , Buoyed by Friday’s sur- - prise signing of the Ranger , agreement, the uraniums surged ahead in early trad- j ing but all, with the ex- ■ ception of Kathleen In- | vestments, finished off the j top on low turnovers. The exception was Peko, , which jumped 40c in the i opening trading to 610 c and stayed there all day. Its partner in the Ranger venture, E.Z.I. went early to .
)330c but closed at 320 c for a net gain of 10c. The Nabarlek developers, Queensland Mines and its parent, Kathleen Investments, were well supported on the strength of the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Anthony’s statement that agreement on a start to Nabarlek could be reached before Christmas.
The Nabariek project is on a much smaller scale than Ranger and could be in production a full twelve months ahead of the Ranger partners if both projects start now. With this in mind, investors pushed Queensland up 30c to a closing price of 355 c while Kathleen Investments finished 20c ahead at 270 c. Although it still faces strong opposition to the development of its Jabiluka deposit from aboriginal groups, Pancontinental ■ closed 50c higher at $12.00.
