Marshal of the Royal Air Foree, Lord Elworthy, who has joined the board of directors of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd. Lord Elworthy, who was bom in South Canterbury is a member of a wellknown farming family. He qualified as a barrister and subsequently joined the Royal Air Force, rising to become Chief of Air Staff in 1963, and head of Britain’s Defence Forces as Chief of Defence Staff in 1967. He retired from the
service in 1971 and became Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle. In 1972 he was made a life peer. He was Lord Lieutenant of Greater London until his retiremment this year. Lord Elworthy had been a member of the Bank’s advisory board in London, and accepted an invitation to become a director after he returned to live in New Zealand in September.
