The race was dominated by American entries The Florida-bred bay. beat Tiller, another American entry, by a head. Tiller was three lengths in front of Waya. the third place-getter and the third American entry in the $200,000 mile and a hall race. The favourite, Trillion, from France, was fourth, followed by Noble Dancer (U.S.). Stone (Italy), Overskate (Canada) and Frere Bastille (France). The victory was worth $120,000 for Dr Jerome Torsney, Mac Diarmid's owner.
