Today is one of the most important days of the year in the racing and trotting world and Television One presents live coverage of the Melbourne Cup and the big events at Addington. The cup is to be telecast “live” from the Flemington race course at 4.30 p.m. Radio New Zealand
community stations will broadcast commentary on the cup at 4.35 p.m. The commentator is Bill Collins, of the A.B.C. Earlier in the day the network will also present two cup previews from Melbourne — one from Bill Collins at 7.15 a.m. and the second from Murray King of Radio New Zealand at 12.10 p.m. From Addington:
2.10 p.m,: The Worthy Queen Handicap — the race is over 2000 metres and is the day's top event for trotters. 3.34 p.m.: The New Zealand Cup. The cup is the first leg of the double and is raced over 3200 metres. 5.15 p.m.: The Canterbury Junior Free-For-All, second leg of the double raced over 2600 metres.
