Campaign against burglary

PA Wellington. The police hope to launch a national anti-bur-glar neighbourhood campaign before Christmas. Aimed at thwarting the steep rise in burglaries — figures show a 16 per cent increase last year — the campaign will concentrate on educating householders and motorists to help themselves. The police national crim e-prevention coordinator, Senior-Sergeant T. R Mortensen, said that

the move was linked to the Stop Thief campaign which began in July this year. “It will be known as rhe Neighbourhood Watch Campaign and initially we will issue 50,000 kitsets,” he said. The kits will contain leaflets advising householders and motorists about precautions they should take to avoid burglaries. A red sticker will also be included w’hich can be placed on house windows. It will carry the words, “Stop thief.”
