Road toll now 14

PA Wellington The holiday road toll rose to 14 last night when a motor-cyclist and his pillion passenger were killed when their machine failed to take a bend in Vauxhall Road, Devonport. Auckland. The motor-cyclist died at the scene of the accident and the pillion rider died on the way tp hospital. Their names had not been released early today. A young Porirua East woman died at 4 p.m. yesterday. She was Dianne Tararo, aged 19. married. Mrs Tararo was thrown from a car which skidded on metal and rolled over 12km south of Taihape.

The Christchurch police would like to hear from anyone who saw an accident between two cars about 6.40 p.m. on Saturday in which a woman was killed and three men, including her husband, were injured. The woman killed was Irene Bamber. aged 41, of 4 Duncan Street, Sumner. Her husband, Peter George Bamber. aged 40. of the same address, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital with internal injuries.

Also injured were Graham Donaldson, of 38 Maltby Avenue, Timaru, and Ronald Malcolm Williams, of 79 Oram Avenue. Christchurch. Messrs Bamber. Donaldson. and Williams were all reported to be fairly comfortable by hospital authorities last evening. The accident occurred in Humphreys Drive. Mark William Greelon, aged 17, of Templeton, who was injured in a collision between a car and a southbound goods train near Burnham Military Camp about 10.40 a.m. on Saturday, was in a fairly comfortable condition last evening in Princess Margaret Hospital. In the same accident, his brother. Paul Robert Geeion, aged 13. a passenger in the car. was killed.
