Although the New Zealand! lamb trade on the United. Kingdom market was slower) last week, prices remained} about the same, according to! the New Zealand Meat Pro-: ducers’ Board. The closure of the French! market to British lamb imports resulted in increased quantities of home-killed lamb being available oh local markets; this had some effect on the -off-take of! New Zealand lamb but, despite it, prices for PL’s and PH’s firmed slightly. Nominal quantities of Newj Zealand lamb cuts in cartons! sold at the following ‘ prices:— Legs 82.0-84.0 Loins 68.0-72.0 Short fores 40.0-42.0 MANUFACTURING BEEF A weaker tone prevailed on the imported cow beef market in the United States last week, and resulted in the average price of New Zealand cow beef easing by two cents to 103.5 US cent's per lb, C.I.F. The weaker tone was attributed to minimal end-user interest beIcause of an increase in cold !store stocks, and also more home cattle on feed reported. MUTTON The mutton market in Japan continued to be quiet last week — with no New Zealand sales reported. Currently New Zealand has been quoting carcase mutton at 50.5 US cents per lb for December-onward shipment. .
