Aust. keeps Tasman trampolining trophy

Australia retained the Trans Tasman ' Trophy against New Zealand in a trampoline contest at Cowles Stadium on Saturday and yesterday. The Australian team of five, led by the world-ranked 16-year-old Brett Austine, had more placings than the New Zealand team erf five. Austine won the men’s open title easily. He was more than three points ahead of the runner-up, his team-mate, Michael Coch-

rane. He also won the intermediate section with a points total slightly higher than the total in the open class. At the end of the competition, Austine, who is ranked thirteenth in the world, gave a display which included the triple somersaults and twists he used to score so highly. Darryl Harvey (Auckland) was the best performed of ’.the New Zealand men. He was third behind the two Australians in the open section and improved in the senior competition to beat Cochrane by the narrow margin of 0.1 of a point with a total of 41.3. The young Christchurch competitor, Anna Gordon, won the women’s open title, edging out the Australian, Anne Rutherford, by .0.8 of a point. In the senior section Rutherford imprefved to beat another Christchurch girl, Charmaine Dawe.
