Building Maintenance Supervisor LOCATION: Nauru Island — Central Pacific. THE COMPANY.The Nauru Phosphate Corporation, which was formed by the Republic of Nauru to develop the phosphate deposits on the Island, is seeking a Building Maintenance Supervisor. THE POSITION: The Building Maintenance Supervisor is responsible to the Building Maintenance Engineer for the quality and job co-ordination of all building trades' workshops through 7 Supervisors' employing approximately 200 Island and Asian employees. The appointee will be responsible for the efficient operations of each trade discipline and will require a broad knowledge of all facets of construction and maintenance of housing, offices and industrial buildings involving carpenters, concretors, plumbers, boilermakers and painters, together with the operation of a concrete batching plant. Familiarity with all building services, water supplies, sewerage, fire protection anti drawing office procedures is essential. THE PERSON: It is expected that the successful applicant will be a self motivated mature person with a broad background in workshop control or construction supervision and will also require to have experience in estimating, cost control and personnel training. SALARY: Commencing salary $A7200 p.a. plus island allowance and child allowance. CONDITIONS: Employment is on a permanent basis after satisfactory completion of the first 18 months term of service. Free passage to the island and return on leave. Approximatley 2‘/a months leave plus travelling time on full pay and allowances after 18 months term of service on the island Free medical treatment at the island, immediate superannuation and other staff benefits available. Furnished, married accommodation is available at a rental of $lO.OO per week. Single accommodation and messing is $BlO.OO per annum. Amenities on the Island include a Staff Recreation Club and tennis and golf club. GENERAL: Nauru is a small island situated in the Central Pacific just south of the Equator. Population is approx. 7,500 people. There are regular jet services from Nauru to Australia and other Pacific Islands. Excellent facilities are available for recreation and social activities. The climate at Nauru is pleasant and healthy, the temperature ranges from 21 to 32° Celsius.
