Street appeal to start today

The Christchurch street appeal for the victims of the Otaga and Southland floods starts at 8 a.m. today. There will be collectors in both the city and the suburbs throughout the day. Gifts are also being taken at the Christchurch City Council offices, the Municipal Electricity Department, borough and county council offices, and at Radio Station 3ZB. Gifts can also be posted to the Christchurch City

The collection of toys and children’s clothing by the Plunket Society has now stopped, the response having been as much as the organisation could cope with. The goods were sent to Invercargill yesterday morning.

The total colie collected by the Christchurch City Council so far is more than $22,000. Radio 3ZB’s appeal has brought more than $30,000 in pledges and gifts — $6OOO of them yesterday.
