Clydesdale section again popular
Things of days gone by will be making a return to the ring in . increased numbers this year. Once the powerhouse of farm work, the Clydesdale draught horse, will take its rightful place among the horse classes this year. They have been absent from the ring for many years apart from displays. Six of the fine animals have been entered and these should prove a fine sight, particularly' for many of the older generation. Once the only mode of transport for many, the harness horse will also take its place in the ring. Good numbers have been received for the classes.
Over recent years the popularity of harness horses has increased, perhaps a sign of the increased cost of petrol. Including the harness horse classes allows enthusiasts an opportunity to show restored buggies, gigs and harness. The sight of the well bred hackneys and some not so well bred, but coping admirably, never fails to attract a large crowd of spectators and enthusiasts. Harness horses are growing in popularity throughout North Canterbury and enthusiasts have clubbed together to make better use of their knowledge and resources. __
