Motor sports

Sir, — R. Logan (October 14) rightly points out that motor sport uses a fraction of the fuel and vehicle parts imported into New Zealand. On the other hand, motor sport tends to defy cars, motor bikes, motor boats and speed in the minds of the impressionable and young. The claim that motor sport in New Zealand is used to improve vehicles performance is scarely valid, because the vehicles are designed and tested overseas. It is unlikely that much new information on vehicles will be found through motor sport in New Zealand. —

Yours, etc., J. C. HORNE. October 15, 1978.
