Clothes and toys sent south
The Plunket Society yesterday asked Christchurch people to stop bringing clothes and toys into its
rooms for victims of the Otago and Southland floods. People have already been so generous that they have given as much as the organisation can handle. The goods already given will reach Invercargill this morning, — in transport made available by both companies and individuals. The Christchurch City Council and other Christchurch councils are still rereiving money. Even before it was announced yesterday that all councils would receive gifts, the Paparua County Council had been given more than $lOO towards the appeal. . Gifts can be either taken or posted to the council offices, or to the Municipal Electricity Department. The
Christchurch City Council box number for flood relief gifts is P.O. Box 237. The Christchurch City Council now had sufficient collectors for its street appeal tomorrow, said the Associate Town Clerk (Mr M. W. Atkinson) last evening. “We are very grateful for the way in which people have responded,” he said. The Christchurch street appeal will begin at 8 a.m, tomorrow. Already more than $9OOO has been received at the City Council offices. The appeal through Radio Station 3ZB has now brought more than $26,000 in gifts and pledges. The radio station is still taking gifts for appeal.
