“Public tolerance” of homosexuality
Sir, — In his last three letters Varian J. Wilson asserts his “tolerance” on gayness, but denigrates the gay individual as, not the victim of society, but sick. Since he never suggests “cures,” I can only conclude that he desires to harm. Has he seen the questions asked m the Wellington survey? Can he justify his insinuations of “slanted questions” and “propaganda”? What sort of attitude is shown by “perverse philosophy” and “deviates”? In this destructive context “they want our children” might be called slander: it is a false report. A constructive approach might begin with the Christian virtue, charity. — Yours, etc., H. A. CHANT.
