Industry develops
These two pictures illustrate the growth of one of the many manufacturing industries in or close to Hornby. In 1950 (top) Winstones was just beginning its operations on a site on Halswell Junction Road. By 1965 (bottom) the concrete block plant had grown substantially. It has since grown larger still and has acquired large neighbours. Hornby’s residential areas have grown along with the expansion of these industries.
