Commission to boost N.Z. films
PA Wellington A bill to establish a Film Commission has been introduced in Parliament by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet). Mr Highet said the establishment of a Film Commission must be seen as a significant advance in the development of the arts in New Zealand. He said the commission would replace the interim Film Commission which was established in November.
Funding for the Film Commission will come from the $500,000 allocated for the next two years.
The commission will be responsible for encouraging the making, promotion, distribution, and exhibition of films with significant New Zealand content, and encouraging and promoting cohesion within the New Zealand film industry.
