Council ‘no' again on nine dogs
The Paparua County Council should not change its earlier decision to deny a licence for more than two dogs on a residential section, said the finance committee yesterday. Further legal action should be taken against Mrs D. M. Lloyd if she persisted in keeping nine dogs, six Maltese and three Chihuahua, on her property at 27 Colman Avenue, Upper Riccarton, without a licence, it said.
Mrs Lloyd had not agreed to compromise with the council by reducing the number of dogs to an “acceptable level.” Evidence that she suffered from severe diabetes raised the question of who took the dogs to shows if she was permanently house-bound. | “It is over to the Magistrate if he thinks the council is wrong,” said Cr A. Y. Shuker.
