‘Hard Times’ at the final
The Circus returns to town (above) in the fourth and final episode of “Hard Times” showing on South Pacific Television tonight. One of the cast of this successful series has been the New Zealander Barbara Ewing. She plays Rachael, the “other woman” in Stephen Blackpool’s life. The cast say they could not recognise Barbara Ewing when she walked into the studio for the first camera work on the series. They had rehearsed for three weeks with a vivacious blonde; suddenly they were confronted by a dour brunette. “The severe black wig
makes all the difference,” says Barbara. “It changed the look of my face completely. I looked 10 years older.” Barbara went to Britain to study at drama school. Her TV work has included her much-acclaimed performance as the heroine of “The Little Farm” in the award-winning drama series and she played Sam Wilson’s mother in the early ses quences of the mammoth John Finch saga “Sam.” She had parts in two horror films — “Dracula ' is Risen From the Grave” and “Torture Garden” — and her other TV series a . have included “Crown Court,” “Couples,” and ; “Hunter’s Walk.”
