Hockey women win twice
NZPA Sydney The touring New Zealand women’s hockey side had a good work-out for the second test against Australia next Saturday by scoring an impressive 2-0 win over a strong New South Wales team at Sydney yesterday. Goals in the twenty-fourth and thirtieth minutes of the opening half by the right inner, Judy Phillips, and centre-forward, Jenny McDonald, paved the way for victory. “New South Wales fielded a very good, fast-moving team with speedy forwards and dynamic wings and we gave the utmost respect to their strength,” said the New Zealand coach, Miss Shirley Eddy, “But New South Wales allowed the New Zealand mid-fielders latitude to dictate the tempo of play with the centre half and skipper, Pat Barwick, revelling in the advantage.”
