Bruce out for first tour match
Doug Bruce, who suffered a twisted left knee in Saturday’s rugby test, will miss Canterbury’s first game of; its northern tour — against: North Auckland at Whangarei on Wednesday. However, if Bruce has recovered sufficiently he will; fly north on Thursday and: play in the second match: against Auckland on Satur-; day. Bruce was tackled heavily; after making a high kick; with his right foot halfway' through the first spell. He I was able to run well enough,; but had difficulty when changing direction, and retired soon after half-time. The Canterbury back selector, Mr Gerald Wilson, | said on Saturday evening! that Keiran Keane would now play at first fiveeighths against North Auckland, John Collinson would travel as a reserve. However, there is some doubt about Shane Gibbons, who has still not fully recovered from the damaged hamstring he suffered last month. If Gibbons cannot play, Mr Wilson will bring in a new player.
