Hazards of fire
Some of the new and unexpected fire hazards produced by consumer society are examined in “Fire,” the Horizon documentary screening tonight on SPTV. Examples of these new hazards are the killer fumes in new furnishing fabrics, the unexpected danger from choking smoke in high-rise buildings and shopping malls, and (in Britain) the fright" eningly inadequate fire protection in factories, hotels and stores. The programme also looks at research into fire protection and concludes that fires can be prevented but research is hampered by lack of funds. While $lBO,OOO is spent on research, it costs SIIOM to put out the fires.
