Tribute on radio to Sir Donald Bradman

Sir Donald Bradman, the man who has been described as “the greatest batsman of all time,” celebrates his seventieth birthday this week. The National programme tonight broadcasts a special tribue to mark the occasion. “The boy from Cootamundra” as he was long known, was initially a stock and share broker who played cricket when his business allowed. He first played for Aus-

tralia against the M.C.C. in 1928 and scored a century in his first test in 1930. During his cricketing career, spanning the years through to 1948, he became statistically the most successful batsman in cricket hisotry. As captain of Australia he never lost a test series and in 1949 became the first Australian cricketer to be knighted.

This special programme will include the voices of Sir Robert Menzies, Sir Leonard Hutton, Alan McGilvray and Bill Bowes.
