Boys raise alarm
Two boys may have saved L. P. Devlin’s auction rooms, in central
Rangiora. from substantial damage yesterday. The boys were passing the auction rooms about
12.30 p.m. when they saw smoke, and raised the alarm.
A small fire had started in a comer of the building, but had caused only scorching by the time the Rangiora Volunteer Fire
Brigade arrived, and put it out. The Canterbury provincial brass band contest street march was interupted briefly on Sunday when the brigade attended a chimney fire at an Ashley Street house at 1.10 p.m. Several bands were marching up Ashley Street to compete at the Rangiora High School hall, and had to clear the road to let the engine pass.
