Hurt climbers still stranded
Two climbers suffering from frostbite and stranded in a hut on Mount Cook are still awaiting rescue by helicopter. The two men who have been described as experienced climbers, have taken refuge in the Empress Hut, one of the highest huts in the Mount Cook National Park, at the head of the Hooker Valley. It is believed that they have frostbitten feet. An attempt to reach
them yesterday failed when heavy snow forced back an Air Force Iroquois helicopter. It will remain at the national park headquarters and make another attempt at. first light today. It was snowing in the area last evening. The men radioed the national park headquarters on Wednesday to say that they would try to walk out but they were prevented from doing so by the weather.
