69 women on run

The largest number of women to contest a handicap road race in New Zealand have entered in the women’s section of the annual, interclub Governor’s Bay-to-Lyttelton event today. A total of 69 women will race over the undulating course; their ages range from 15 to 55. And the field of 115 in the over 40 section is the largest number of veteran runners to contest a handicap road race in Christchurch. There are record entries in every section of the race, with a total of nearly 500 runners entered. The junior men’s event has

50 entries, of which the Te Kura club has the largest representation of 18 runners. The biggest field is in the open men’s race, which has attracted 260 entries. Fastest time should come from one of the back-markers — lan Milne, Andrew Stark (University) and Cam McLennan (Ashburton), all of whom start 15min behind go. The University club is the favourite for team honours.
