THE DAY
The report of the Government Printing Office was tabled when Parliament sat at 9 a.m. yesterday. Members tabled six -otices of motion. The Maori Affairs Bill was given a first reading and referred to the Maori Affairs Committee, and the War Pensions Amendment Bill and the Social Security Amendment Bill No. 2 were introduced and given first leadings. An Opposition move to have the Social Security Amendment Bill referred to the Social Services Committee was defeated in a division, 39-25.
Ministers answered 20 questions. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), replying to an urgent question on the suspension of foreign exchange dealings, said there was no intention of changing the rate of the New Zealand dollar.
Mrs Mary Batchelor (Lab., Avon) was given leave to introduce the Domestic Violence Bill, which was given a first reading and set down for a second reading on September 20.
The House adjourned at Tuesday.
