The position involves providing technical assistance and advice for the Department's Factory Inspectorate and industry, on machme guarding methods and associated problems. Where necessary designs of suitable machine guards including those incorporating mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electronic interlock systems are prepared. The appointee would prepare draft publications and maintain contact with owners, manufacturers and sellers of machinery, including lectures to Departmental staff and industry as required. Persons with a mechanical engineering background are sought for this position and should be Registered Engineers. Some travel throughout New Zealand will be necessary.
