Oil man dies
I NZPA London: i I j A New Zealander who I played a leading role in oil i exploration and in the expansion of the oil giant, BP, I has been praised in an obitj uary in “The Times,” of * London. Percy Thomas Cox, known j as Peter Cox, died in Eng-! land last week, aged 76. Born in Ashburton and! education at Christ’s College and Canterbury University College, “he played an important part in the worldwide expansion of exploration by BP that followed the nationalisation of its interest in Iran in 1951,” the obituary said. As managing-director of the BP Exploration Company, he directed major expansion by BP and, in 1960, first authorised the exploration programme in Alaska which eventually led to the opening of the vast oil fields there.
