Lord Hymac fancied at Oamaru on Monday

Bv

W. R. CARSTON

If Lord Hymac comes up with one of his peak runs that should be adequate to give him a victory in the D.B. South Island Handicap at Oamaru on Monday.

The five-year-old Darnley gelding will be one of the brighter hopes Washdyke trainers will saddle in the first leg of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double. Although 1600 m is a pretty tough assignment freshup after a spell—he has not raced since April — Lord Hymac’s credentials suggest he will cope with the task. Lord Hymac, which began racing only last season, compiled a record which was marked by consistency. He managed 1400 m successfully at his first start and his other six races veilded thri more victories, two seconds and a third. To date Lord Hymac has compe’ed on firm tracks' only, and if the fine spell conrinues he will probably have the footing he prefers on Monday. And a switch to better footing could bring about a sharpening of the form of some of the others which could have bogged down on' winter tracks for months.; One in this category is Rosie’s Boy, which showed I that he might be very close' again to his very good summer form with a victory at the Riccarton trials on Tuesday. Rosie’s Boy will be one of two runners that Riccarton’s Wattie Latimer will saddle. The other is the top-weight, Watelse, winner of the Dominion Handicap at Waimate last month.

Although she has drawn badly Colada could strengthen the prospect of a Washdvke victory and the freegoing Mosgiel-trained Show Keeper will also came in for some attention. The Invercargill-trained Red Ro must also be included among the stronger chances after consecutive victory in the mud at Waimate and Washdyke last month. His initial victorylast season was on firm footing at Gore in Januarv. On her form at the Christchurch Hunt and Grand National meetings Neti is entitled to favouritism among the class-three and four sprinters in the second leg.

the White Stone Handicap. But she will not find it easy under top-weight of 57kg if speedsters like Country Prince, Princess Camille and I Blue Sage come up with peak runs.
