America’s Diana Nyad, attempting the first swim across the Florida Straights from Cuba to Key West, was stopped from reaching her goal by stinging jellyfish and slamming waves. British-born Stella Taylor was also forced to abandon her attempt to swim from the Bahamas to Florida with oniy 22km to go because of prowling sharks.
