Electrical safety
A safety course for electricians will be held at the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association conference rooms on August 30. The move was first proposed by a working committee set up in 1973 to examine the safety performance of the electrical industry. The chairman of this committee (Mr D.‘ G. Young) said that the courses, to be held throughout New Zealand. with Christchurch as the “pilot programme” would ensure that all electrical workers received safety training, perhaps compulsorily. The committee, which was formed after a number of fatal accidents in the industry, represents the Labour Department, the Institute of Electricians, the Electrical Contractors’ Fed? eration, the Public Service Association, the North Island Electrical Workers’ Union, the Supply Authorities’ Association and the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy.
