Michael Diomas: Colour Interaction Paintings, Brooke/Gifford Gallery; until August 18. Visitors to the exhibition of colour interaction paintings by Michael Thomas were invited to write down their reactions and criticisms of the work on display. Their comments are shown at left. Some of the less legible comments read: “Is this man sick; or is the Education Department which provides him with a profitable living out of its senses? It is the tax payer who has to foot the bill for this rubbish.” “Striking picture depths and colour vibrances provide a stimulating experience.” “An assault on the retina.” “He should be ashamed.” “I enjoyed the reaction of my sense perceptions and the works — balanced and clever.” “Terrible.” “Takes time to adjust but well worth taking the time.” “Pretentious crap.”
