Work on strengthening a chimney at the Christchurch Arts Centre to comply with earthquake safety standards was delayed briefly yesterday when a 40 ft reinforcing cage became snagged in the 60ft chimney while it was being lowered from a 120 ft crane. Mr Jim Loper (left), a carpenter, is shown releasing the cage after the incident. Mr Gary Palmer later rewelded damaged sections of it. The chimney will be filled with concrete.
