N.I. groups win music titles

PA Wellington i Auckland groups have won both the small-group and large-group instrumental sections of the 1978 Wales Bank School Music Contest.! Christchurch groups were runners-up in each section. The national finals were held in the Wellington Town; Hail concert chamber, before i a capacity audience of 600. The small-group section i was won by the Kings Trio; — Simon Ansell. Hugh Camp- : bell, and Dean Sutcliffe; which played Piano Trio No.; 25 in G by Haydn. The 1 Kings Stringers won the large group section, playing I Violin Concerto No. 6. Op. 3 | in A Minor, by Vivaldi. The runner-up in the small group section was the Madeleine Quartet, of the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music, and in the large group section the Christchurch Girls’ High School String Orchestra. The winner of the choral section, which was included for the first time, was the Hutt Valiev School Microchoir. which presented works b\ Brahms. Bartok and Morley. The judge for the finals was Peter Schaffer, concertmaster Of the N.Z. Symphony Orchestra.
