Woman sought in jewel theft
i The Christchurch C. 1.8. is seeking a woman and two i men m connection with the < [theft of $23,000 worth of rings from a city jeweller's [shop last Thursday. Police stations throughout [the country have been [ issued with detailed descripj tions of the 32 rings stolen i from the Curtis Ring House [at 124 Cashel Street. Detectives believe that the i : get-away car used by the thieves was a red 1977-78; mode' Hillman Avenger, driven by a woman. The police wish to hear from anybody who might have seen the car parked in Cashel Street, near Bells Arcade. about. noon on Thursday. The man walked into the hotel office about 11.20 a.m., ■ threw a raincoat over the receptionist’s head, and ran ! off with $3OO in cash and : $BOO in cheques and trav. sellers cheques. He was chased down Papanui Road by two men. but escaped. The receptionist, aged 29. was punched lightly on the jaw during the incident, but she was not injured. The robber was described ■as being part-Polynesian. about 174 cm tall, fine-feat ur:?d. with thick, black, collarlength hair. He was wearing a dark :jacket and dark trousers. Anyone who might have .had cheues stolen in the I robbery* should get in touch ■ with the police, said the acting head of the Christchurch |C.1.8. (Detective Inspector P. ; S. Seaman).
