Two days’ s petrol
PA Auckland The Auckland petrol dispute threatens to disrupt businesses, bus services, and milk and bread deliveries. The dispute began last Wednesday with a strike by oil storemen and spread to the drivers after Shell tanker drivers refused a request to take petrol to other outlets of other companies. By’ last night, about 80 per cent of the 380 service stations between Kaiwaka and Mercer had empty storage tanks. Experts estimate supplies of petrol will last only until Thursday. Petrol storemen, who are striking for more pay, and tanker drivers, now embroiled in a separate dispute with oil companies, wiil meet in the Auckland Trades Hall this morning. The joint meeting will decide whether to accent the company offers of talks if thev return to work.
