About 1100 prospective plane passengers were delayed yesterday morning when fog stopped flying at Christchurch Airport.
One of them was Rebecca Monopoly, aged 5, shown above, who was bound for Nelson. The travellers were booked on seven outward and nine
inward flights which were cancelled by Air New Zealand. All were domestic flights; no international departures or arrivals were disrupted by the fog, which shrouded much of north-west Christchurch all the morning. The airport was reopened for two brief periods during
the 5| hours before the final all-clear was given. Normal flights resumed at 11.45 a.m. Air New Zealand scheduled two special flights yesterday afternoon to help clear the backlog. Fog had also closed the airport at 5.30 on Sunday evening, when 10 flights were cancelled.
