Peter Jones suspended after Kurow Cup

Special correspondent Dunedin Peter Jones was suspended from race driving until September 8 and Black Stump was disqualified from first in the Kurow Cup al Oamaru yesterdav on the grounds of interference to Cardinal King 100 m from the finish. The promoted winner was Rock On. which had made the pace from Black Stump, with Carnival King on the outside. Rock On. owned and trained at Tinwald by Cyril White, had won his previous start at Oamaru in May and he won the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes on the course as a two-year-old. An objection to Black Stump’s first placing was lodged by the stipendiary steward, Peter McKenzie. Evidence was heard from the stipendiary stewards, Jones, George Shand (Hurricane Squire) and Kerry O’Reilly (Carnival King). There was no race filming in operation at the Kurow meeting. Mr Bill Irving, the president of the chib, said’ inis was due to the nonavailability of filming operators for a Monday meeting. Jones has appealed against the suspension and the owners of Black Stump. Messrs Trevor Shirlev and his wife. Rae lee. Watbro did well to finish second, half a length back after racing without cover. There was three-quarters of a length to Mount Lambie, which came through on the inside. Redoak led for the last 1100 m of the Omarama Handicap and was not tested. Lady Castelton came on generously in the R A.
