Bridge of Remembrance
Sir, — Having only seen them from the bus, I am interested, to know the purpose of the white structures at the base of the Bridge of Remembrance. A friend thinks they house lights hut 1 am sure she is wrong. In these days they would either by recessed or at least housed in a material which harmonises with the pink tiles and grey bridge. No. I am sure they are kennels for miniature guard, dogs which will stop war veterans having races up and down the steps in their wheelchairs.— Yours, etc., MAUREEN DODGE. August 4, 1978. [The white structures are raised concrete emplacements for floodlights to illuminate the main arch of the bridge. The wiring has been installed, but not the lights, and the emplacements have been covered with hardboard in the meantime. — Editor],
