Missile frigate may liven port
The arrival of the United States Navy missile-frigate Horne at Lyttelton today is expected to liven up the port after last week’s lull.
The U.S.S. Horne is due at 9 a.m. today, and will probably berth at No. 2 East wharf after bunkering at the oil wharf. She is due to sail on Thursday.
Ships’ watchmen at Lyttelton now come under a guaranteed wage system similar to waterside rs after negotiations last week between the Seamen’s Union and port employers. The South Island secretary of the union (Mr T. B. Stuart) ‘said for the first time casual watch-
men would get a guaranteed wage whether there was work or not.
