Ring case ‘closed’

PA Wellington The inquiry into the disappearance of two diamond rings valued at $250,000 has been closed, and no arrest in connection with the rings has been made. The 20-carat solitaire, worth $200,000, and a pyramid-shaped cluster with a 3t carat centre stone valued at $50,000, vanished in June. The owner of the rings, a South Auckland local body politician, Mrs Pearl Baker, offered a $25,000 reward for the recovery of the rings. Detective Sergeant M. Campbel] of the Papakura C. 1.8.. said that the inquiry was finished and it was not expected that any charges would be laid. However, in their inquiries into the disappearance of Mrs Baker’s rings, three young women were arrested and charged with receiving stolen jewellery. The jewellery concerned was not Mrs Baker’s.
