Hanoi raid
NZPA-Reuter Peking China has accused Vietnamese forces of storming a hotel in Hanoi at the weekend and forcing out 100 Chinese who were taken to an unknown destination. The New China News Agency said in a report from Hanoi yesterday that the incident was “the latest act of violence committed by the Vietnamese” against the country’s Chinese population.
The reported raid occurred as Vice Foreign Ministers of the two countries prepared to hold another meeting to discuss the position of more than one million ethnic Chinese in Vietnam. About the same time as they met, the two countries reported an incident at a border crossing — both Vietnam and China saying that their border guards had been attacked.
