Table tennis title to Burrowes

Maurice Burrowes. the eighthranked player in New Zealand, won the mens singles title at the Canterbury residential table tennis championships at the Selwvn Street hall on Saturday. In' the final. Burrowes beat the agile veteran, John Armstrong, in straight games. Earlier Armstrong had disposed of his name-sake, Stuart., the top-' ranked player in the singles. Burrowes beat the promising young player, Mark Clasper, in the semi-finals. Clasper had earlier beaten Gary Saunders, the fourth seed. Christine Kehoe won the women’s title, beating Pam Shadbolt in the final after dropping the first game. One of the best efforts of the championships was that of Michael Prisk. To reach the final of the under 18 boys’ singles, he beat both Clasper and Martin Kelly, two of the best, juniors in the province.
