A short story by Henry James

Although born and educated in America, Henry James spent most of his adult life in England. Earlier visits to Europe had stimulated his interest in the culture and, as an “outsider” much preoccupied with the complexities of human frailty, he viewed the foibles of fashionable English society through eyes clearer than those of many native writers. His short story “Sir Edmund Orme” is a good example of his observation and understanding of an English gentleman who takes his revenge honourably even after death. “Sir Edmund Orme” has been adapted for “Short Story Theatre” by Fiona

Kidman and produced for Radio New Zealand by Dai Evans, in Wellington. National programme tonight.
