THE UNIVERSITY OF : AUCKLAND [ GEOTHERMAL INSTITUTE Professional Engineer Earth Scientist APPLICATIONS are invited from professional engineers and earth scientists for 2 Sositions in the newly estabshed Geothermal Institute. According to their qualifications and experience the successful applicants will have the status and salary of Senior Lecturers or Lecturers. Commencing salaries will be established within the appropriate scale. The present range is $NZ10,585?NZ15,411 per annum. In exceptional eases the Council may extend this to $16,546 per annum. The successful candidates may take up duties ; in August, 1978, or on a later date. Conditions of Appointment and Method of Appliea tion are available from all New Zealand Universities or the Assistant Registrar (Academic Appointments), University of Auckland. The Geothermal Institute' has been established at the University of Auckland for the postgraduate education in [ technologj’ relating to geothermal energy, of engineers and scientists who wilt initially come from developing countries and New Zealand. The project is funded jointly by the United Nations Development Programme and the New Zealand Government. Commencing in February, 1979. formal teaching will be concerned with a full-time one-year postBraduate course leading to a iploma in Energy Technology (Geothermal). Other lecturers within the Diploma course will be drawn from the staffs of the Faculties of Engineering and Science. Government departments, and consulting engineering practices concerned with geothermal development. Professional Engineer Applicants for the post of Professional Engineer must have a strong academic background in Chemical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or In Engineering Science, knowledge and experience of one or more aspects of geothermal technology, and be prepared to lecture on those aspects of geothermal technology in which they have specialist knowledge. Earth Scientist Applicants for the post of Earth Scientist must have expertise In at least one of the following topics and a good working knowledge of one other: geologj’ and petrology (especially volcanic rocks arid their hydrothermal alteration), geochemistry (mineralisation and hydrothermal fluids), and geophysics. General duties for both positions will include lecturing, laboratories, and field classes in geothermal regions, together with all associated duties including examining.
