Daughter safe in Spain

Two weeks of worry have come to an end for Mrs Vera Doig. of Waikuku. She has learned that her daughter Margaret, who was in Spain at the time of the gas tanker explosion is safe. Margaret Doig, formerly a nursing sister in the plastic surgery unit at Burwood Hospital, has been touring Britain, France, and Spain by car with friends since April. Two days before the explosion, Mrs Doig received a letter from her daughter which had been written in Pamplona, about 225 km from the scene of the tragedy. Mrs Doig thought her daughter had been heading towards San Carlos de la Rapita, where the explosion occurred. During the last two weeks, Mrs Doig has waited for news of her daughter. Inquiries have been made overseas by the member of Parliament for Rangiora (Mr D. F. Quigley), and by the Red Cross and the police. At 5.30 a.m. yesterday Margaret Doig telephoned from Grenada to say her party had taken another route. The first they had known of the tragedy had been when an English girl in the group telephoned her boyfriend in Britain.
